Governance - San Diego French American School
SDFAS is a California 501 (c ) (3) non-profit organization administered by a Board of Trustees. The Board formulates the mission of the school, develops the strategic plan and ensures the annual budget allows the school to fulfill its mission.
The Board recruits and oversees the Head of School. The Head of School is the educational leader of the school with the mission to direct the school in the best interest of the students and the aim to reach excellence in education.

Eric OTTERSON
Chairman
Mr. Otterson joined the San Diego French-American School Board of Trustees in 2006 and (Chairman 2010 – Current). He is Managing Director at Silicon Valley Bank and is highly active in San Diego’s entrepreneurial technology community. Previously, he was VP of BD at Cooley LLP, Mr. Otterson previously served senior roles in several high tech companies specialized in the delivery of technology services and enterprise applications. He received his MBA in High Tech Marketing from the Anderson School at UCLA in 1997. He also serves on the Board of Directors of EvoNexus, San Diego Venture Group, and CONNECT. He has three children currently attending the San Diego French-American School.

Serge BRACHET
Treasurer
Mr. Serge Brachet joined the San Diego Fench-American School Board of Trustees in 2012. He has two children currently attending SDFAS. Serge is a founding partner and CEO of Aklara, a firm specializing in the design and execution of electronic reverse auctions. He was an economic analyst at SAI Consultores, a Mexican consulting firm specializing in trade, antitrust and financial restructuring. He earned his BA in economics from Universidad Iberoamericana and his MBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin.

Benoit VINCENT
Past Chair
Mr. Vincent joined the Board in 2008. Mr. Vincent and his wife, Liliane, have been supporters of the school since they moved from France to San Diego in 1995. After attending SDFAS from Kindergarten to 8th grade, their two sons transitioned well prepared to an American public high school in Carlsbad and currently study in competitive U.S. colleges. After earning a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Vincent taught at the University of Lyon, France and then became research engineer for the CNRS. He is currently executive V.P. R&D of the multi-brands and multinational sporting good company, TaylorMade-Adidas golf.

Nanouchka GUILHEMFOUERT
Nanouchka Guilhemfouert joined the Board in 2011. Her son has been attending SDFAS since 2002 where she has been a key participant in organizing annual school events. A native of Pau, France, she graduated with an MBA in Marketing from San Francisco State University. Since, Nanouchka has owned and co-founded a number of small to medium-size California based companies in the power-sport industry (Braking, Tag Metals, etc). In addition, she was recently the CFO for One Industries, an Action Sport leader, for 10 years. She is currently working on new business ventures and consults primarily in Marketing. She is looking forward to serving on the board.

Diego MIRALLES
Diego joined the SDFAS BOT in 2013. He currently has two children at the school, and one has already graduated after completing 8th grade. His children have been at the school since 2008. He is the Head of the West Coast Research Center for Janssen, the Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. He is a physician by training, graduating from the University of Buenos Aires. He was an Associate Professor at Duke University, and currently is a Full Adjunct Professor at UCSD in the Department of Pharmacology. He is also a Trustee of Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego.

Teresa SEKIGUCHI
Teresa Sekiguchi joined the SDFAS Board in 2012. Her two children have been attending SDFAS since preschool. She has a B.A. in Economics and Political Science and a MBA in General Management from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and The Copenhagen School of Business. During her days as a business consultant in companies like AT Kearney and Deloitte & Touche, she was involved in strategic development projects in Mexico and other Latin America countries. She has been a professor at the MBA at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and at Universidad Anáhuac in México, teaching New Business and Franchising classes. She is involved in the food and franchising industry in Mexico, as well as in non-profit organizations that promote Mexican-Japanese relations.

Kyndra LEACH
Vice Chair
Kyndra Leach joined the board in 2013. She has two children currently attending SDFAS. In recent years, Kyndra has been working as a consultant at Dexcom, Inc. She has been primarily involved in event marketing in the medical device field. Additionally she has family real estate development and management business. Kyndra has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Francesca TORRIANI, MD
Secretary
Dr. Torriani is Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of California San Diego and the Medical Director of UC San Diego Health System's Infection Prevention and Clinical Epidemiology (IPCE) Unit. Dr. Torriani received her medical degree from the Medical School of the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and has been a Faculty member of UC San Diego Medical School since 1995. At UC San Diego Health System, Dr. Torriani serves as an Attending Physician in Internal Medicine and as an Infectious Diseases and HIV Specialist. As the Medical Director of the IPCE Unit, she serves as the Infection Control Officer and represents UC San Diego Health System at the County, State and National level in situations similar to the H1N1 2009 pandemic. Her research has focused on understanding and treating complications of HIV infection and the treatment of hepatitis C in HIV infection. She teaches Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and HIV at UC San Diego.In 2006, her son enrolled in PK1 and is currently in 4th grade at San Diego French-American School. Dr. Torriani joined the Board in 2010.

Paul GUCKIAN
Mr. Guckian is new to the San Diego French-American School Board of Trustees in 2011. Currently V.P. of Engineering at QUALCOMM Incorporated he is responsible for corporate engineering services including company-wide responsibility for regulatory engineering and compliance. Prior to joining QUALCOMM in 1996, Mr. Guckian held positions with a number of European based companies where he was responsible for design and compliance with regulatory requirements. Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland where he graduated in electrical and electronic engineering from Napier College of Technology.

Ian HAYDEN
Ian Hayden joined the SDFAS Board of Trustees in 2013. He has two children currently attending SDFAS. Mr. Hayden is a teacher of Latin and Spanish in the Foreign Language Department of The Bishop’s School in La Jolla. Prior to joining the faculty at Bishop's, Mr. Hayden owned and operated Core Learning Company, a small business specializing in providing test preparation services for academic entrance exams such as the ISEE, SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT. He holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California, San Diego and an MA in Rhetoric and Writing Studies from San Diego State University.

Chantal REED, PhD
Chantal Reed joined the SDFAS Board in 2014. She has two daughters attending the school, both of whom began in kindergarten. She is an independent consultant in Pharmaceutical Development, specializing in technical report writing, data auditing, feasibility study design, and literature reviews for several local biotech companies. She is the course chair for “Dosage Forms and Drug Delivery Systems” at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at The University of California, San Diego, where she also holds the position of Assistant Clinical Professor, Volunteer. She received her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Washington, and her Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Sciences from Harvard University.

Jennifer SILVER
Jennifer Silver joined the San Diego French-American School Board in 2014. Originally from Portland, Maine, Jennifer moved to California in 2002 and currently has one child attending preschool at SDFAS. Jennifer is an attorney and business consultant. Her practice is primarily focused on debt-related matters, including bankruptcy and other means of financial restructuring for businesses and individuals. Jennifer earned her BA in Political Science from University of Miami and her JD from University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
